The face of democracy is rapidly changing. All around the world new ways to involve citizens in politics are being tested and becoming established.
This platform was launched to collect and discuss projects from all over the world that help to "Vitalize democracy through participation" - and to identify a winner for the Reinhard Mohn Prize 2011.
Please note: The submissions phase for the 2011 Reinhard Mohn Prize expired on 22 August 2010. 11,600 representatively selected German citizens were invited to vote on the winner, which was announced on 1st April 2011.

Liz Mohn presented the Reinhard Mohn Prize to the mayor of Recife
On June 16th, Recife's mayor João da Costa Bezerra Filho accepted the EUR 150,000 prize from Liz Mohn, vice-chair of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Executive Board. German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave the laudatory speech during the prize ceremony at the Gütersloh Theater.

Over the past four weeks, 11.600 citizens in Germany were invited to select the winner for the Reinhard Mohn Prize 2011 out of seven finalists. Voting is now over and the winner has been selected.
